“Reading should not be presented to children as a chore, a duty. It should be offered as a gift.” – Kate DiCamillo
Olongapo City National High School supports the implementation of the Department of Education’s National Reading Program Campaign through Catch-up Fridays.

Through the Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Day beginning on January 12, 2024, DEAR seeks to provide students the chance to explore the enjoyment of reading. By emphasizing the development of learners’ reading comprehension, critical thinking, analytical, and writing abilities, Catch-up Fridays aim to build the fundamental, social, and other pertinent skills required to fulfill the curriculum’s intended goals.
Read the full guidelines of the program through Department Memorandum No. 001, s. 2024.

But Catch-up Fridays go beyond simply encouraging reading for pleasure. They serve as a platform for enhancing students’ academic skills and competencies. Through engaging in DEAR sessions, students not only enhance their reading comprehension but also develop critical thinking, analytical, and writing abilities. These foundational skills are essential for success in various academic pursuits and are instrumental in fulfilling the curriculum’s intended goals.

Moreover, Catch-up Fridays emphasize the holistic development of learners by nurturing fundamental, social, and other pertinent skills. By fostering a culture of reading and intellectual curiosity, we strive to equip our students with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly complex and dynamic world.

For detailed guidelines on our Catch-up Fridays program, we encourage all stakeholders to refer to Department Memorandum No. 001, s. 2024. Together, let us continue to cultivate a love for reading and empower our students to unlock their full potential.
