OCNHS STE Students Clinched 5th Spot in MET Innovation 2024
Munoz City, Philippines – February 16, 2024
In a remarkable showcase of innovation and technological prowess, Olongapo City National High School (OCNHS) has emerged victorious in the prestigious MET Innovation 2024 regional contest. The school clinched the top honors for their groundbreaking entry, “Flotify,” a solar-powered water level indicator aimed at addressing critical water management issues.
The MET Innovation competition, held annually to foster creativity and problem-solving skills among young minds in the region, witnessed stiff competition from various educational institutions. However, OCNHS distinguished itself with its ingenious solution to a pertinent local challenge.
“Flotify” represents a timely response to the pressing issue of flood management in Olongapo City and its surrounding areas. Leveraging solar power technology, the device provides real-time monitoring of water levels in rivers, reservoirs, and other water bodies. Equipped with sensors and a user-friendly interface, Flotify delivers accurate data to authorities and communities, enabling proactive measures to mitigate flood risks.
The innovative project reflects the collaborative efforts of the team composed of Marjom Jenskins Arollado, Dan Reiner Custodio, Dean Nathaniel Triguero, and their mentors, who worked tirelessly to conceptualize, design, and implement Flotify. Under the guidance of dedicated mentors, the team navigated through challenges and refined their prototype to perfection. It is with deep pride that OCNHS is the only school to represent the division in the said competition.
Mr. Arnold Maramag, the research adviser overseeing the project, expressed immense pride in the students’ accomplishment. “Flotify embodies our commitment to harnessing technology for the betterment of society. It is gratifying to see our students channel their creativity and ingenuity towards addressing local challenges effectively,” remarked Mr. Maramag.
Despite achieving success with their project, the student researchers maintain an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement. Driven by their passion for innovation, they persistently seek out opportunities to refine their work and push the boundaries of what is possible. Their relentless dedication to excellence fuels their quest for ongoing advancement, ensuring that they never settle for anything less that the best. (LPM)
